Supplements And Side-Effects

There are many weight loss supplements on the market today that promise to make you look and feel better than ever. The majority of these supplements offer to help you lose weight by doing (or more) of the following:

  • Reduce your appetite, making you feel fuller so you eat less calories
  • Limit the nutrients that your body can absorb, such as fat and carbs
  • Help your body burn more calories and fat

Unfortunately, many of the different substances that claim to help you lose weight fast can also be dangerous to your health. The FDA has banned several of these drugs, including ephedra, due to the harmful side effects such as heart attack, stroke, seizures, and even death.

Other supplements to watch out for include:

  • Orlistat. Also going by the name of Xenical, this pill works by inhibiting the breakdown of fat in your gut to keep you from absorbing too much. Though effective in weight loss, it can cause oily stools, frequent bowel movements, and vitamin deficiency.
  • Bitter Orange. This compound is related to ephedra, banned by the FDA. It does help users lose weight quickly, but the side effects can be just as serious as those associated with ephedra, especially when it comes to heart-health.
  • CLA. This supplement has shown to increase weight loss, but the long-term side effects can be very dangerous to your health, including fatty liver, insulin resistance, and chronic inflammation.

So, are there any other supplements that are legal, really help you lose weight, and do not have any horrible side-effects?

Whatever supplement you choose, go with something all natural and without horrible side effects.
